Orchard Park, Bend

Orchard Park is a nice middle tier playground.

"Bend Park & Recreation has worked closely with the Orchard Neighborhood Association to design park features including a small soccer field, a play "garden" for all children, a picnic area with shade gazebo and capacity for 8, half-court basketball, multi-use trails and neighborhood connections. A portable toilet is on site. A grove of giant sequoia, an oak forest and an autumn orchard should help lure the neighbors back outdoors. The proximity of nearby apartments, a private school and daycare center make this park a popular spot."

 My Comments:

Apparently, a "play garden" is a fenced in soft-surface play area.  This is a great playground if you have a runner.  There are only two exits so the parent can easily keep the little ones safely confined.  This park takes more abuse than some.  You are more likely to find litter or broken equipment than at other parks in Bend.

Play equipment includes a nice play structure, baby swing, special needs swing, a rocking dinosaur, animal themed benches,  soft "rocks", and big kid swings. You can find shade under the play structure or under the nearby picnic shelter.

Parking is on the street.  Sixth street has the closest parking, but there is better shade on 5th street if your kids don't mind walking a block uphill.
