Wanoga Snow Park

Current Weather Conditions and Forecast here:
Wanoga is at 5400'.

Seasonal Updates:

December 23, 2016: The parking lot is gnarly. At least three vehicles needed to be towed from the parking lot. I chained up the front wheel drive minivan for the first time ever. Snow tires weren't good enough. The problem is a layer of ice on the pavement below the packed/powder snow. Virginia Meissner's lot has the same problem and it might take a while to clear up.

December 21, 2016: Don't forget your Sno Park Pass. Bi-mart sells them at face value with no added concessionaire  fees.

Plenty of snow. The runs were a bit icy today...and fast. No little trees poking through at the bottom so that's good. Dad's concessions upgraded to a quiet generator.

I've seen at least four vinyl tubes destroyed on these slopes this year. There are lots of little pieces of broken plastic embedded in the icy snow. I think that may be what's causing the carnage. If you want to avoid the popped tube or the broken sled, you might want to look into a more durable model. We upgraded to Lucky Bums this year. No breakage in four sledding trips. And if there is a problem, REI has an excellent return policy and Lucky Bums warranties there sleds.
February 2, 2014. Yikes. There is very little snow for this time of year. The good news is that the slope is well protected from the sun, so the ground is still covered, although there are lots of little tree tops poking through. Hopefully next weekends weather brings some significant snow. The only benefit I see is that the vendor with his noisy generator was nowhere to be seen.

Wanoga Sno Park is a great place for kids to sled when there is no snow in the lower elevations.

The parking is very convenient to a wide sledding hill that features a variety of slopes.  It's great for younger kids, but would probably be a little too tame for teenagers.  And that's great because you can take your kids here without being on constant alert for fast moving unpredictable big kids.

The sno park features a warming shelter with a wood stove, picnic tables, and a changing room. It also wired for electricity, but you have to bring a generator to power it.

Sno Park permits are required to park in the lot.  Prices at DMV offices are $25/season or $4/day   You can also purchase them at ski/sporting goods stores, but they usually add a service fee. Bimart does not charge a service fee for daily permits.
On Weekends and school holidays, you can buy single day passes for $6 from Dad's Concession trailer right in the parking lot.

Dad's also offers concessions and inflatable snow tubes.  The Source Weekly has a more complete write up on Dad's.

Weather information:  There is an automated weather station at Wanoga Butte.  Wanoga Butte is 600' higher than Wanoga sno-park, so plan accordingly.    Current conditions and forecast here.  I have been told that the Bulletin also publishes conditions, but I haven't been able to find it online.

  1. AVOID Dad's concessions if you can manage it. We bought a sled for $18 bucks, which broke on the first run, and they refused to replace it, even though it had been literally used once by a little boy on soft snow (no jumps, etc). The guy running the cart was a jerk. AVOID! Get your sled and everything you need in town.
